Programs & Services

The Queens Sickle Cell Advocacy Network, Inc. (QSCAN) is a 501 (c)(3) non-for-profit broad-based community organization conveniently located at 207-08 Hollis Avenue, Queens Village, NY 11429; one short block from Francis Lewis Boulevard. The Center is very accessible by public transportation and is open Monday through Friday; and on Saturday, by appointment only. While the published hours are 9AM to 5PM, the director and volunteers are often in the center until 7PM, even 9PM for support group meetings or if clients are in need of services.

For over three decades, QSCAN has been providing an array of support services and programs to children, caregivers, families and individuals affected with sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and the trait in the Tristate and Metropolitan areas.  All of our services are provided FREE OF CHARGE.


Services offered are:
  • Information, referrals and other assistance linking families and individuals to services fitting their needs
  • Information about sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and the trait
  • Referrals to hospitals and other healthcare facilities
  • Referrals and linkages with governmental agencies, community organizations, immigration and legal services
  • Hospital/Home visits
  • Advocacy for patients between their hospitals and providers
  • Help to sponsor a child for summer camp/respite care
  • Referrals to family or individual consultation and counseling
  • Entitlements: SSA, SSI, Medicaid, SNAP (formerly Food Stamps), and other governmental programs
  • Referral to GED, College, 504/IDEA, job readiness, technical training, life skills and enrichment programs
  • Assistance to families in need
    • Family financial assistance (when funds are available)
    • Prescription financial assistance program
    • Clothing assistance
    • Goods and services

We rely heavily on gifts and charitable contributions from private citizens, corporate sponsors, and community groups that will enable us to provide the needed services to families, children, caregivers and individuals who are affected by sickle cell disease and other chronic conditions.
